March 19, 2009
The dates are June 18- 20, 2009 for our Ohio District LCMS convention. The place is the Embassy Suites Hotel in Dublin, Ohio (NW Columbus sector) on Routes 33 and 161 just inside I-270. The time frame is Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to Saturday at 12:00 Noon with orientation for new delegates on Thursday morning.
Our convention theme is One Message – Many Contexts. One Message ties us to our Synod's present triennial theme. Many Contexts adds to it an Ohio District flavor. Whether the Word is proclaimed in contexts that are rural, suburban, small town, or urban, it is still one message, the message of the cross, that brings hope. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus brings us together in convention for worship, celebration, sharing of information and deliberation. We will use these forty-eight hours to focus on missions, to elect people to various positions of servant leadership, to consider District restructuring of our regions for better efficiency, and to join the discussion about our Synod's proposed structure changes.
Excellent Bible studies, great audio visuals, overtures becoming resolutions, reports on district ministries, floor discussions sorting out issues, elections choosing leaders and board members, people renewing friendships, and the Body of Christ in worship...this and more are all part of what takes place at a district convention. Convention sessions, displays, housing, and meals are all in the Embassy Suites Hotel.
Every congregation is allowed to send one voting pastor and one voting lay delegate and its rostered commissioned ministers as advisory delegates.
Convention registration opens March 20, 2009 and will close on April 20, 2009. Please refer to the enclosed yellow sheet, “How to Register for the 2009 Ohio District Convention” for detailed instructions in order to complete the on-line registration process.
The enclosed Credentials Card must be turned in at the check-in table at the Convention. The workbook, with overtures and reports, along with the report from the Nominating Committee, will be available on the Ohio District website at a later date. Every effort has been made by the Ohio District president, the district staff, and the Convention Committee under the leadership of Rev. James Gau, to assure that your attendance and the convention itself moves smoothly.
God bless you as we gather together under the theme,One Message - Many Contexts, and as we go through the convention business and set the district themes and priorities for the next three years.
Your President,
Terry Cripe
