Goehmann Family - Haiti Mission Trip
Rev. David Goehmann and family from St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wauseon, Ohio, will be embarking on a 9-month mission assignment in Jacmel, Haiti. David is the Pastor at St. Luke-Wauseon. Heidi has her Deaconess certification from Concordia University-Chicago, and is completing her Master’s of Social Work, from the University of Toledo. They will serve with Pastor Marky Kessa, President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Haiti, to provide women’s programs and support for clergy in the Lutheran churches of Haiti. Read More ...
Heidi will train several local women from Lutheran churches in the areas of spiritual care and peer counseling to be able to support and encourage one another, as well as reach out with the Gospel to those in need around them. The Haitian women will join together weekly for Bible study and lessons on trauma, loss, addictions, depression, and other struggles. They will also learn spiritual care through home visits to church and community members. Women from the community will also meet for a sustainable economic development program, using their art skills to create products to market and sell to tourists and churches in the United States. David will work with Pastor Kessa to uplift and support Lutheran clergy and church laymen.
The Goehmann family would like to partner with churches across the Ohio District. St. Luke has extended a mission sabbatical for the Goehmann’s and is providing half of the funds needed for this mission project. Dave and Heidi would like to connect with churches that are interested in Haiti or would like to learn more about the ministries happening in Haiti. The Goehmann’s are willing to do presentations, speak to groups, or connect in other ways. The Goehmann’s would like to include congregations during their ministry in Haiti, through video sermons and messages, their devotional blog, and working with teams that would like to visit.
The Goehmann’s seek to raise approximately $35,000 to cover living expenses, transportation costs, and ministry program expenses. The Goehmann’s will serve in Haiti beginning in this coming September 2013 through April 2014, when they will return to Ohio.
