POLITICAL CAMPAIGN INTERVENTION
PLEASE BEWARE: In order to maintain their exemption from federal income tax, churches must comply with the regulations in tax code 501(c)(3) one of which is that the church must not participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office.
Congregations of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod fall under Synod's blanket 501(c)(3) status ruling and must comply with these regulations. Failure to comply puts the congregation's tax exempt status at risk, as well as that of Synod.
