October 2017

  • On Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the Weathervane Playhouse on 100 Price Road, the community is invited to see a new film about the life and times of Martin Luther. 500 years ago, Martin Luther triggered a seismic upheaval that rocked the western world with an impact that continues to reverberate to this day. This entertaining new film follows Luther's story. The movie is co-hosted by New Hope Lutheran and St. John's Lutheran churches. The cost is a $5 donation which will benefit the Newark Food Pantry and the Licking County Coalition of Care. For more information contact Diane Paetz at 740-281-0959.
  • FREE Reformation Concert will take place on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 3:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 27993 Detroit Road, Westlake, Ohio, featuring organist Matthew Ginter. Enjoy works for organ, choir and instruments by Bach, Videro, Hebble, Sweelinck and more.  A reception will follow this concert. A freewill offering supporting hurricane relief efforts will be received. 
  • Katie Luther – Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 6041 Ridge Road, Parma, Ohio. In conjunction with the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, Bethany Lutheran Church's Women in God's Service (WinGS) will host a fun and informative program with "Katie Luther," a one-woman performance by local actress, Ruth Pangrace.   • Hope Lutheran Church in Akron, Ohio is presenting an exclusive, one-night only viewing of "Martin Luther – The Idea that Changed the World" on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Tinseltown Theater in North Canton. This movie is also a fundraiser to assist Refuge of Hope and Haven of Rest.   • 500th Anniversary of the Reformation Celebrations at Royal Redeemer, 11680 Royalton Road, North Royalton, Ohio:
    On Friday, October 13, 2017: Fall Festival from 7:00-9:00 PM. Games, food, balloon animals, inflatables, and assorted treats for children (recommended ages 3-10). There will be various "Reformation" themed games at the Fall Festival, as well. Family friendly Halloween costumes allowed. Suggested entry fee: one food item for our food pantry.
    Saturday-Sunday, October 14-15, 2017: Reformation Celebration with former LCMS President, Rev. Dr. Gerald B. Kieschnick. Dr. Kieschnick will preach at all weekend worship services. Weekend services are on Saturday at 5:00 PM (traditional) and 6:00 PM (contemporary), and Sunday at 8:15 AM. (traditional), 9:45 AM (traditional & contemporary) and 11:15 AM (contemporary).
    Saturday October 14, 2017: Brats, sauerkraut and other German style food will be served after both the 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM Saturday evening services. Free will donation.
    Saturday, October 14, 2017: A FREE viewing of the new full-length film "Martin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World". The movie will be shown at 7:30 PM in the Activity Center.

  • Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1 Deerwalk Lane, Charleston, WV, invites you to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with their ReformationFest on Saturday, October 21, 2017.  At 9:00 AM, kick-off with a disc-golf tournament to benefit "Feed My Sheep" school food program.  At 11:00 AM, FREE food and beverages will be served and the obstacle course for the kids will be opened.  Also, a Reformation Walk will take place, tracing the events that led to the rediscovery of the Gospel and changed the world.  At 3:30 and 5:30 PM, a free screening of the movie "Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed the World."
  • Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, IN, will host a presentation by Rev. Dr. Lawrence Brennan on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Fr. Brennan will speak on the topic "500 Years Later, The Reformation: A Roman Catholic Perspective." Fr. Brennan is Professor of Systematic Theology at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Rev. Dr. Roland Ziegler, the Robert D. Preus Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and Confessional Lutheran Studies at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN, will offer a Lutheran response.   • Everyone is invited to the 500th Anniversary Celebration of the Reformation to be held at Grace Lutheran Church (LCMS SELC District), 13030 Madison Avenue in Lakewood, Ohio on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 4:00 PM. LCMS Active and Emeritus clergy are invited to vest. Our guest preacher for this historic celebration will be The Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, Emeritus Executive Director of Lutherans for Life. Active and Emeritus LCMS Clergy are invited to vest and wear a red stole.   • Special Reformation Worship Service on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 5:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1075 Glenwood Avenue, Napoleon, Ohio.  Special music by choir, handbells and featuring Mr. Steve Wentzel, organist.  The message will be delivered by Rev. Dr. Reed Leesing.  See FLYER
  • Reformation 500th Anniversary Festival Worship Service on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 3:30 PM at St. John Lutheran Church in Dublin, Ohio. Central Ohio Circuits will host an area-wide Reformation worship service with Preacher Rev. Nathan Esala.  More details will be forthcoming. 
  • HymnFest will take place at St. Stanislaus-Slavic Village, 3649 East 30th Street, Cleveland on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 7:30 PM.  See FLYER for details.
  • St. Mark Lutheran Church in Brunswick, Ohio will be celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 2:00-7:00 PM with a Renaissance-themed event.  Check out FLYER for details.
  • Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, 2062 East 30th Street, Cleveland, Ohio wll celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation with a special service on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 3:00 PM followed by an Octoberfest.  The Rev. Dr. David Buegler will preach and the Lutheran Wind Ensemble, the choirs of St. Paul-Westlake and Holy Cross-Cleveland , and the Handbell Choir of Holy Cross will add to the worship as we give thanks to God for restoring His Word to His Church.  Dinner seating is limited, so call the church office at 216.861.2179 for dinner reservations.   • Grace Lutheran Church in Cincinnati, Ohio will have a special Reformation themed Trunk or Treat-type event on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 PM. There will be different stations including events and locations in the life of Luther. There will be short skits, mini-games, and mini-monologues both inside and outside of Grace's building. At every stop there will be candy, including the giving away of the 95 Reeses. Costumes are encouraged but not required, and Reformation themed costumes receive special distinction (and extra loot!).   • Lutheran Reformation Music to Bach will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 18000 Van Aken Blvd, Shaker Heights, Ohio on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 7:00 PM.  Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
  • Martin Luther Movie Day will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willowick, Ohio.  2 Movies will be shown. See FLYER
  • HymnFest 500 will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7960 State Route 38, Milford Center, Ohio on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 1:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
  • Northwest Circuit III of the Ohio District is hosting a Hymn Festival on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 4:00 PM. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4560 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. The Festival will highlight hymns by Martin Luther with the theme "Our Victory Has Been Won" - A Festival of Hymns of Faith and Comfort on the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation. In addition to the singing of hymns, circuit adult and children choirs and an instrumental ensemble will add to the event. Scripture readings, meditations on how the hymns teach faith and provide comfort, and prayers will be part of the Festival. See FLYER.
  • On Sunday, October 29, 2017, Zion Lutheran Church, 20-141 Co Rd. X, Ridgeville Corners, Ohio will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation with a worship service at 10:00 AM with a Bratwurst dinner following at 11:00 AM.  See FLYER
  • Our Redeemer Ev. Lutheran Church in Huntington, WV will continue with the video festival of Luther films on October 29, 2017 at 4:00 PM. The third video in the series is Rick Steves: "Luther and the Reformation" on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 9:00 to 11:30 AM, and the church will host a conference: "The Reformation After 500 Years" with Chuck Fry presenter and moderator. Chuck recently received his M.A. in Theology and is the author of the book: "A World Upside Down: Four essays on the Life and Theology of Martin Luther."
  • On Sunday, October 29, 2017, in celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, the Senior High Youth Group of St. Paul Lutheran Church, 27993 Detroit Road, Westlake, Ohio, will host a German Lunch from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM, featuring bratwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad, red cabbage, cucumber salad, bread, beverage and dessert. Advance ticket prices: $12.00/adult; $7.00/student (17 and under); $3.00 Kid Menu (hot dog, mac-n-cheese). Additional $2.00/ticket when purchased on day of event.   • Celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation in worship at Tallmadge Lutheran Church, 759 East Ave, Tallmadge, OH on October 31, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Remember the nailing of the 95 Theses on the church doors of Wittenberg by Martin Luther 500 years ago and the movement that became the Reformation. Rev. David Zachrich will be preaching and the Kent State Men's Chorus will be providing special music. Pastors from the Akron area will be leading the worship service.
  • On Tuesday, October 31, 2017, Paul Lutheran Church, 27993, Detroit Road, Westlake, Ohio, will host a special service at 12:00 Noon, with Rev. Dr. David Buegler preaching, which will mark the actual anniversary celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. All are welcome to attend!

November 2017 

  • Due to so many Lutheran Churches having their own Reformation celebrations at the end of October, there is just not enough time to do everything in 2017. Therefore, Prince of Peace Lutheran in Medina, Ohio (English District) has decided to postpone the singing of the Requiem on All Saints Day until a later time.

  • On November 3-4, 2017, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 766 South High Street,(in the heart of historic German Village) Columbus, Ohio will have their 10th Annual Conference on the Lutheran Confessions with theme centered around celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. You'll have the opportunity to: Learn from lectures presented by Dr. Wilhelm "Torgy" Torgerson of Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary; Participate in three worship services; and; Enjoy fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ!   • The Lutheran Church in Hitlers Germany will be the topic of a lecture given by an eye witness, the Rev. Horst Hoyer, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2928 Scranton Road in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM. The report will include the forming of the provincial churches (Landeskirche), Christian warfare under the Reichsbischof the forming of the confessional church and the "German Christian theology" (Deutsche Christen). Based on a history of a Lutheran congregation which found their future in an independent Synod after its pastor was exiled. All are welcome. For information call the church office at (216) 781-9511.
