Letter to all Ohio District congregations - May 11, 2017

Recently the Ohio District Board of Directors appointed Mr. Tom Moffit, Mrs. Jean Moffitt, and myself to serve on the District Committee on Constitutional Matters, as directed by Resolution 09-2015 of the 2015 District Convention. We are all happy to serve, but we first want to thank the Rev. Milton Berner who has served so well on this Committee for over 20 years. Rev. Berner certainly has been a great blessing from the Lord and we greatly thank him for all his work!

At the same time, we want to outline for you how your congregations should make changes to your constitutions / by-laws. The Code of Regulations states that congregations should submit any changes to their constitutions / bylaws to our Committee and then we would make recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval. Enclosed is the process. Please keep this document for future reference.

Please note that some congregations haven't sent their approved constitutions to the District office. We will contact them and remind them to send this in because it's important to keep your latest congregational constitutions on file.

We also want to alert you about the Synodical website which provided some guidelines about constitutions. You will find there guidelines for constitutions of established churches and of mission congregations. Here's how you can find the guidelines:
1. Go to https://www.lcms.org/ccm
2. Scroll down to resources and choose the helpful documents tab
3. Scroll down and choose the appropriate guidelines for your congregation

We will also include this information on the District website, so you can examine it or have your lay leaders look at it.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

May the Lord bless our District congregations as we serve Him in an orderly fashion!!

The District Committee on Constitutional Matters,
