Concordia Publishing House introduced a new education series, “Mission:Life” intended for elementary, Sunday School, and release-time schools. It received mixed reviews from teachers and pastors.
Zion-Akron developed a new method of doubling the number of Sunday teachers. Last year they had 33 teachers; this year they had 71!
40 Years Ago
Sad Report: Rev. William Single, 91, the oldest ordained pastor in the District and his son, Paul Single, passed away 2 days apart. Rev. Paul Single served as Ohio District President from 1966-69.
Missouri Synod planned a new headquarters in Kirkwood, MO. Later, it is dubbed “The Purple Palace” due to its purple exterior color.
The LCMS began a new fund-raising program called, “Forward in Remembrance.” The program will deal with the large Synodical debt and will also be used to develop new mission projects.
25 Years Ago:
Luther’s own Bible was found by a Portuguese researcher who looking at a large collection of Bibles in the Baden-Wuerttemberg State Library.
Rev. Juan A. Gonzalez was installed at Principe de Paz-Lorain, OH, the District mission project.
St. Timothy-Huber Heights, OH held a Worship Workshop to introduce new forms of contemporary worship to congregations.

A survey in this month's American Sociological Review (ASR) suggested that a "high rate of life satisfaction" is a byproduct of the Christian life. Researchers found that people who frequently attend church and other places of worship are happier than those who attend less frequently.
Many tearful goodbyes were said this summer and fall as the National Guard prepared for deployment to Afghanistan.
Operation Barnabas will hold a seminar at St. John-Garfield Heights to serve the soldiers.
Lutheran Hour Ministry will hold a workshop on “Seven Styles of Witnessing” at Zion-Maple Heights, Ohio.
The “Ablaze” program encouraged people to share their stories as a part of evangelizing others.
